Conn Maciel Carey Announces West Coast Presence

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 15, 2014) – Conn Maciel Carey, a new Washington, D.C.-based boutique law firm with a national scope and focus on Labor & Employment, OSHA, and Litigation, announced today that it now has a West Coast presence and that Andrew J. Sommer has joined as Partner in its new San Francisco office, which is located at 201 Spear Street.

“Our expansion strategy to the West Coast is an important one for us as our national clients can now benefit coast-to-coast from the type of boutique legal service we offer in labor and employment, litigation, and OSHA. California employment law and Cal/OSHA enforcement present unique challenges to employers, and adding an attorney with Andrew’s great experience in both areas to our team of attorneys enables us to provide the highest level of service to national and regional clients who face these challenges,” said Eric J. Conn, one of the founding partners of Conn Maciel Carey and Chair of the firm’s national OSHA • Workplace Safety Practice Group.

Mr. Sommer previously was with Epstein Becker Green, P.C. in its San Francisco office. He has more than 15 years of experience advising employers on a wide range of employment-related matters. He defends employers against claims at both the state and federal level including for wrongful termination, whistleblowing, discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour and OSHA/Cal-OSHA violations.

“We’ve known Andrew for many years and always have been impressed with his business acumen and the way he works with clients. We are more than excited that he has decided to join our team as it will further enhance our capabilities for serving our California clients in key areas,” said Kara M. Maciel, one of the founding partners of Conn Maciel Carey and Chair of the firm’s national Labor • Employment Practice Group.

Mr. Sommer said, “I was drawn to the entrepreneurial nature of Conn Maciel Carey’s leaders. I feel that the principals will give me the opportunity to build upon my practice and provide a platform where I can succeed, while at the same time helping them to grow the firm.”

“Establishing a West Coast presence is another milestone that we are proud of. As we continue to expand our footprint both locally and nationally, our focus continues to be our clients and our people,” said Bryan A. Carey, one of the founding partners of Conn Maciel Carey and Chair of the firm’s national Litigation Practice Group.
