Daniel C. Deacon is a Partner in the Washington, DC office of Conn Maciel Carey LLP working in both the Labor and Employment and OSHA practice groups.
Daniel advises and represents employers on a wide range of employment-related issues, including wage and hour disputes, claims of discrimination and harassment, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). He also helps employers develop and implement effective workplace policies and safety and health programs.
Additionally, Daniel represents and advises employers during inspections and investigations conducted by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and state OSHA programs, responds to notices from OSHA about employee complaints of safety hazards, and represents employers in OSHA litigation, including citation contests and administrative hearings. He also helps employers develop safety and health programs and policies, and conducts presentations on a variety of workplace safety topics.
Prior to joining Conn Maciel Carey, Daniel was a judicial law clerk for the 18th Judicial Circuit of Virginia in the City of Alexandria. He assisted the judges in resolving complex civil and criminal cases during his one-year clerkship.
While in law school at American University, Washington College of Law, Daniel practiced as a student attorney with the Disability Rights Law Clinic where he advocated for students’ rights to ensure that students with learning disabilities received an appropriate public education. He worked throughout law school at a major U.S. corporation and a national law firm. In those positions, he helped resolve interesting and novel employment law issues. Daniel also served as a Deans Fellow for two years in Washington College of Law’s Legal Rhetoric Program where he helped teach first-year students legal writing and oral advocacy.
Daniel currently lives in the Washington, D.C. area. During his free time, he enjoys playing golf and spending time at the beach. He also plays ice hockey in a local recreation league twice a week.
