Cal/OSHA and the Cal/OSH Standards Board are heading into one of their busiest rulemaking years in recent memory. Several new standards and major revisions to existing regulations are moving forward at the same time, and most employers with California operations stand to be affected by at least one of them.
Some of the key rulemakings on the horizon include:
- “Enterprise-wide” and “egregious” citation classifications for General Industry (formal rulemaking underway).
- Workplace Violence Prevention Standard for General Industry, expanding on SB 553 (most recent Advisory Committee meeting held October 27, 2026).
- Adoption of the Worker Walkaround Rule (formal rulemaking in its final stages).
- Revisions to the Indoor and Outdoor Heat Illness and Wildfire Smoke Prevention rules.
Written comments on the enterprise-wide and egregious citation proposal are due November 30, 2026, and the public hearing is set for December 3, 2026, so stakeholders have only a few weeks to engage.
Join CMC’s Annual Cal/OSHA Rulemaking Coalition Kickoff Call
CMC invites employers and trade groups who want a seat at the table for these rulemakings to join our Annual Cal/OSHA Rulemaking Coalition Kickoff Call on Friday, November 13, 2026, at 1:00 pm PT (4:00 pm ET).
During the kickoff call, we will:
- Provide an overview of Cal/OSHA’s active rulemaking docket.
- Share our recommendations for the priority rulemakings the coalition should address.
- Discuss preliminary positions we recommend advancing in written comments, at Standards Board and Advisory Committee meetings, and in other forums.
- Gather your input and feedback, including the information and data that can help support those positions.
The coalition is flat fee-based and company-anonymous, with participation renewed annually. If your organization is interested in joining, or would like more information before deciding, register to join us on November 13th or contact Rachel L. Conn, Chair of CMC’s California Practice, or Eric J. Conn, Chair of CMC’s OSHA Practice.
